INAUGURAL TRANZITIONS @ WORK AWARDS NIGHT A SUCCESS

Sarah Starkey of Sandgate District High School became the inaugural winner of the tranzitions @ work Vocational Education and Training Student of the Year which was presented at the tranzitions @ work Gala Dinner and Awards night last week at the Kedron Wavell Services Club.
 
The inaugural Gala Dinner and Awards night was an amazing success with Students, Employers and Schools being recognised for their efforts in the area of Vocational Education and Training for the regions of Brisbane North A and Redcliffe.
 
tranzitions @ work manager John Herbert was delighted with the evening and said that all the award recipients should be proud of their efforts in 2007.
“Tonight was all about showcasing the efforts of not only the students within the region but also the employers and schools that play such a large role in Vocational Education and Training.
 
“All the award recipients have displayed an amazing amount of commitment and enthusiasm to the Vocational Education programs in 2007 and they should be proud of what they have achieved not only for themselves but for the community,” Mr Herbert said.
 
Other student award recipients on the night included Brett Coomber from the Australian Technical College – North Brisbane who received the Australian School-based Apprenticeship Student of the Year and Dennis Felton of Bracken Ridge State High School who received the Structured Workplace Learning Student of the Year.
 
“The students in our schools today are tomorrow’s next generation of employees and managers, so tranzitions @ work are proud of these young people who have excelled in their chosen area,” Mr Herbert said.
 
The night also recognised the commitment of the employers in 2007 with Bracken Ridge Childcare and Education Centre receiving the Structured Workplace Learning Employer of the Year and Australian School-based Apprenticeship Employer going to the Kedron Wavell Services Club.
 
The efforts of the schools were acknowledged with Wavell State High School winning the Career and Transition Support award and Aspley State High School receiving the Vocational Education and Training School of the Year. Aime Culpepper of Corpus Christi College was recognised as the Vocational Education and Training Coordinator of the Year.
 
Funded by the Department of Education, Science and Training, tranzitions @ work is a Local Community Partnership that works with high schools and youth on the Redcliffe Peninsula and parts of north Brisbane. The not-for-profit organisation works with schools and the business community to identify and establish fulfilling careers for young people while satisfying the skill requirements of the business community and local industries.
