TEACHERS EMBRACE ADOPT A SCHOOL PROGRAM
tranzitions @ work recently launched their Automotive Adopt a School Programme in amazing fashion by providing a tour for a number of teachers to Zupps Aspley, Brown and Hurley Trucks and Dick Johnston Racing.
The tour which began at Zupps Aspley and concluded at Dick Johnston Racing was initiated to ensure the teachers understand the skills required in the automotive industry. Chis Irwin, teacher at Clontarf Beach State High School, appreciated her tour and complimented the unique opportunity of the program.
“This programme is unique in that it provides student and teachers with a great opportunity to understand and expand our experience in the workplace.
“As teachers it is great to recognize what the students are leaning while they are in the workforce not only so we can identify with them but to also assist the students through their personal learning”, she said
tranzitions @ work manager, Brenda Higgins also commented on the success of the day by stating that the teachers are so important in the success of the program.
“The Adopt a School program relies on the teachers not only to appreciate what the students will be leaning but also to encourage and assist the students through the workplace environment.
“Teachers have an abundance of knowledge and experience but this program assists the teachers in expanding that knowledge for students in non-traditional programs,” Mrs Higgins said.
The aim of the Adopt a School Programme (ASP) is to build links between businesses, students, teachers and the broader school community through activities that increase knowledge and opportunities for careers and further education. The program connects businesses, school students, teachers and parents in career pathways planning.
Adopt a School projects will connect businesses with students through hands-on learning activities that will increase knowledge about training and career opportunities in a variety of industries, including in skills needs areas.
The adopt a school program is targeting, but not limiting itself to, the following industries Engineering, Automotive, Electrical, Construction, Cabinet Maker, Printing, Aged Care, Horticulture, Hospitality, Tourism and Communication & IT.
